Captain's Cabin

'Location is everything'

About us

We purchased Captain's Cabin in April 2014 as a future retirement property for us at some point in the future. We purchased the cottage as its cosy and unique character appealed to us and also because the quiet and secluded nature of the surrounding area provided an escape from daily life.

Captain's Cabin was renovated using local specialised builders to ensure the building is in keeping with it's historical character and original features. We want to ensure that the cottage can be a countryside haven for couples or walkers or those with a young child and that it has all the essentials needed for a worry free, enjoyable time away from the stresses of work.

This town is my wife's favourite in the Cotswolds (hence our 'joint' decision to purchase a holiday home here) due to its desirable location and lively atmosphere. Captain's Cabin is so well situated which is another reason we appreciate the proximity to central Bourton but also the secluded sun trap courtyard.

We immediately fell in love with the property and have renovated it sympathetically sourcing local materials and tradespeople to try and capture as much of the local charm as possible. A relaxing evening meal can be enjoyed in Bourton and you can be back in Captain's Cabin within a couple of minutes without the need for a car which we also love.

What a shame we have to work so don't get to enjoy it enough - roll on retirement!

We think the property is arguably set in one of the best locations in the village. This is because Captain's Cabin is situated just behind the shops, with a private PARKING space which is sometimes difficult to source in one of the most popular towns in the Cotswolds.

We don't think we have ever seen such a large inglenook fireplace in other cottages which is an amazing feature and adds to the character of the ground floor. The 1st floor bedroom contains numerous oaken beams, cream cupboards and honey exposed stone which is really nice to wake up to each morning.

Directly behind the cottage you can access public footpaths to Lower Slaughter or beyond. What makes Captain's Cabin so unique is it's huge inglenook fireplace and cosy atmosphere. It is simply very enchanting and many guests are sad to leave after their stay as it means leaving behind a fairy tale and returning to reality. The mullion window to the front of the property gives it the Grade II status and is a focal point in the double bedroom.

We hope you learn to love Captain's Cabins as much as we do and pay us a visit in the near future.
